India may not always have had a populace of over a billion people, yet the subcontinent has constantly been home to lots of religions, ethnic cultures and empires, so there is far more than one story below of LGBTQ+ legal rights and acknowledgment. Generally, however, India was historically tolerant of LGBTQ+ partnerships, with the exception of the
